Design Idea 1:

For my first Photoshop portrait I wanted to show of my passion for Shepard Fairey’s art work. He is the designer of the HOPE poster featuring Barack Obama. This is what my portrait is inspired from. I started this design of by picking a suitable portrait of me that relates to the portrait he uses. Same facial expression and similar lighting effect. When I landed on the perfect portrait (after many attempts) I still slightly adjusted the lighting in some places. And that instantly took effect when I applied the filter for this image. I added the cut out filter to my portrait as thats what gave me the number of levels this photo was going to have. I only need four as that is the amount used in the original HOPE poster. I simplified the edges but not too much as I still wanted some detail in the image. However, even though I had the effect applied the colours didnt match. So I had to change each individual section to the correct/ original colours I sourced from the poster.

Final design.

I changed the word from HOPE to STAR as that is a way a majority of people misspell my name. But its kind of grown on me and in a most of my name logos I create now I misspell it on purpose. In the end I gave the whole poster another filter. The noise filter seemed the best to give it that poster look about it as it makes the whole thing slightly grainy.

Design Idea 2:

For my second Photoshop portrait I wanted to produce a portrait that presents my understanding of image manipulation techniques. Whilst I was at Sixth Form I studied Adobe as an enrichment and came to the end of that course we took an exam which I managed to pass. Throughout that course we studied a variety of simple yet effect techniques which is what I’m going to revisit. The one I chose was the glitch effect and it’s quite simple to make.

Final design.

I duplicated the layer my portrait was on and removed a RGB colour channel. Positioned both layers slightly away from each other, and that already gives you the effect. But for more detail, using the rectangular marquee tool I cut out sections of the modified layer moved them slightly away from there original spot and that creates the glitch.
